Quailway Cottage is a lovely southwestern cottage located on 20 acres of desert habitat. The Cottage lies in the Chihuahuan desert between the Chiricahua Mountains on the west and the Peloncillo Mountain range on the east. The Cottage is located five miles from the famed Cave Creek Canyon, summer home of the Elegant Trogon and many other species of birds found only in southeastern Arizona and adjacent New Mexico. Over 350 species of birds have been observed on the east side of the Chiricahua Mountains.
The 600 square-foot private cottage includes a fully furnished kitchen (stove top, no oven), dining area and living room combination, large sitting bedroom with satellite television and DVD, full bath, walk-in closet, and full laundry facilities. The bedroom sitting area has a private entrance with a covered patio that overlooks a small pond, providing excellent bird and wildlife watching and just relaxing outdoors. The covered front entrance also has a sitting area.
Sleeping accommodations include one twin and one queen bed in the bedroom and a twin bed in the living room area. The Cottage has air conditioning and central heating for year-round comfort and a Franklin wood-burning stove. A private picnic area with a gas grill and table is located near the cottage for guest use.

For those not wanting to cook, meals are available at small local cafes in Portal and Rodeo. Supplies may be purchased in Tucson or Willcox, Arizona, if you are coming from the west; in Deming or Las Cruces, NM, if you are coming from the east; and in Douglas if you are coming from the south. Essential needs may be purchased locally at small stores in Portal and Rodeo.

Answer: Tucson International Airport (TUS) is 2.5 hours west; El Paso International Airport is 3.5 hours to the east
Question: Do you offer internet connection?
Answer: We do offer internet connection at Quailway Cottage, but the Wifi connection can be spotty. There are also Wifi connections at Portal Library and at the Sky Island Grill and Grocery.
Question: Where can I purchase supplies?
Answer: Essential supplies can be purchased locally in Portal or Rodeo. Major shopping outlets are located in Douglas, Arizona (50 miles on way).
Question: What time is it?
Answer: Arizona does not observe daylight savings time. During those months we are 1 hour behind New Mexico.
Question: Do you offer cooking facilities?
Answer: Quailway Cottage has a fully furnished kitchen (stove top but no oven). The kitchen also has a crock pot for making meals.
Question: Where can I purchase gas?
Answer: Major gas stations are in Douglas, AZ and along I-10. You can also purchase gas (24 hour) at the Valley Mercantile in Animas, New Mexico approximately 25 miles away.
Question: Is there a barbeque?
Answer: Quailway Cottage has an outside gas grill.
Question: How far is Quailway Cottage from the road?
Answer: Quailway Cottage driveway connects directly to Portal Road.
Question: Is there phone service?
Answer: There is no phone at Quailway Cottage. Cell phones do work at our location.
Question: How much privacy will I have? Are there other units?
Answer: Quailway Cottage is a stand alone unit and it’s the only guest house on the property.
Question: Does the unit have a TV? DVD player?
Answer: We offer both satellite television and a DVD player. We also have a selection of nature, family and western movies.
Question: Who is the emergency contact?
Answer: Call 911 for Portal Rescue or the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
